November: I'm Thankful For...

Authors: Emily Stanford ('23) and Clarine Tantowi ('23)

For the month of November, The BAIS Times held an open photography/drawing reader submission contest for the entire student body with the prompt "I'm thankful for..." in celebration of Thanksgiving. Students submitted pictures or drawings of what they are thankful for with a short description of the submission included. The submissions ranged from Jesus to fast food, and the best were selected by members of the BAIS Times to be featured in this article.

Jesus by Zoe Small ('32)

Description: I am thankful for Jesus and his sacrifice!

Fast Food by Elysia Suwandi ('31)

Description: I am thankful for the food we eat. I was hungry and I decided to draw food.

Leaning Towards the Light by Ayden Lindley ('27)

Description: These plants are all leaning towards the light, they represent community and growing together.

Inspiration: On Saturday I was trying to think of something I was thankful for that I could put into a photo. As I was thinking, the thought of being thankful for community passed my mind, however it would have been hard to put into a picture because there are so many people I am thankful for. So, for a bit I was in my room trying to brainstorm some ideas and remembered that I had forgotten to water my plant (which I don't know what the name is), and as I was watering it I thought how interesting it was that all of these plants were growing together towards the light. As I thought about these plants I keep on my windowsill I thought what if I took a photo of these plants? These plants are all interconnected and growing together as we are in life, this really stood out to me and make me think. This is what I am thankful for, community. Having a good community is a key piece in life and I was blessed with an amazing one, from family members to classmates to teachers and so many more people all around me, this is what I am thankful for. This community has led me to the path for light and kept me going through strange and difficult times, this is why I chose these plants.

Unforgettable by Eliza Stanford ('27)

Description: I chose this picture because last year, COVID 19 brought the world down a lot. However, things started to open back up and drama was amazing. I will never forget how amazing the experience was, and I am so grateful for it because it really made me happy. This picture is the opening scene with everyone singing happily.

After School by Fallon Lo ('23)

Description: This picture was actually taken after school when I was finding photos to take for a Photo 1 project. As I was walking around the campus, I was so amazed by how the clouds formed around the sunlight. I began to realize how thankful I was for being able to see nature in its purest form.

Sunset by Jinny Park ('23)

Description: I am thankful for beautiful sunsets I see everyday.
