What STUCO Events Should We Bring Back?

Author: Anssel Sean Nugraha ('24)

StuCo events are social events the student council holds now and then. They have always been an enormous part of BAIS' traditions, but during the pandemic, we never had a chance to bring them back due to the government's strict covid protocols. However, covid protocols are loosening this year, allowing us to hold these events again. The question is, which of these events do students and teachers want us to bring back?

Favorite Past StuCo Events

Due to the pandemic, StuCo events became a thing of the past, and some students even forgot their existence. However, The BAIS Times managed to interview just a few members from the BAIS community to provide information regarding their favorite StuCo past events. The first person interviewed was Ms. Melissa Hall.

"It only happened once, but I LOVED it," Ms. Hall noted, "- the dinner that StuCo held in 2018. It was a secondary school wide BBQ. I loved it because it was so cool to see the students engage with each other over dinner. Phones were put down and laughter filled the room."

In response to the same question, Angel Gunaman '23 noted to The BAIS Times, "Mazerunner was one of my favorite StuCo events because it involved a lot of team building, and it's in general, a really fun game."

Events like these are why BAIS' community is united; they give meaningful memories throughout our school lives. In addition to the Secondary BBQ and Mazerunner event from 2018, the Escape Room event held in 2019 was another crowd favorite.

Glenn Alexius '28 said," The StuCo event that I miss the most was the Escape Room because it was well planned out, and it felt like an escape room that you would go to with your friends."

StuCo events not only entertain the BAIS community but have also been a part of our memories in our school lives. The BAIS Times chose to ask the BAIS community, "What are your favorite memories during those events?". Ms. Fulwood said, "The excitement and fun between HS/MS/teachers were my favorite parts in a StuCo Event. They're fun and a stress reliever for everyone".

While Glenn said, "During the soccer tournament event, I had fun watching the tournament with my friends. It was fun to cheer for my house." The laughter and fun in StuCo events are an essential part of school, a place to socialize and have fun, not just a place of education.

Events StuCo Should Hold

After discovering which StuCo events the student body loved most, The BAIS Times wanted to ask what events the students would like to happen again.

In response to this question, Glenn suggested an Esport event where BAIS can start competing with other schools, like how we compete in IISSAC. Esports and video gaming have been very popular among teenagers in this generation and are good events where students can build their relationships through competitive gaming.

Continuing with the sports theme, Ms. Jamie Fulwood also suggested a schoolwide dodgeball tournament. She hopes that, through this event, everyone can have fun while exercising and socializing with one another.
